GIFFIN SHEET METALS LIMITED started in 1949 as a small sheet metal shop whose manufacturing was primarily geared to ventilation ductwork for office buildings and factories in the commercial HVAC industry. By the second generation, they had expanded into a full-service design-build fabricator and erector inclusive of combustion services — a formidable Canadian company built on the vision of its founder and a strong dedication to serving clients.
In 1962, Giffin relocated to a 65,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, providing an opportunity to expand the sheet metal services. Ensconced in their new digs, Giffin grew with a strategic shift toward the industrial sector and automotive market in 1965 — and 1979 brought more growth with the introduction of GIFFIN CONTRACTORS, designed to propel the company further into the automotive and OEM industries through the addition of paint finishing, metal treatment, energy reduction, pollution control, air handling, air movement, and project management solutions.
Never satisfied resting on their laurels, GIFFIN SHEET METALS LIMITED became specialists in the nuclear power generation program, with contracts from both OPG and AECL to manufacture D20 Vapour Recovery Driers and ductwork for reactors located in Canada and South Korea. This growth brought further work involving the CANDU reactors for which Giffin was the only Canadian manufacturing facility certified for fabrication and installation.
Diversifying continued into new arenas with the manufacturing of ventilation and dust collection systems for the food and pulp & paper sectors and odour control systems for wastewater treatment plants. Whether operating solely or collaborating with another division within the “Giffin family tree”, Giffin has always strived to generate innovative and cost-saving measures for all clients.
More expansion occurred in 2010, with the addition of GIFFIN COMBUSTION SERVICES LTD., a TSSA-registered company specializing in gas-fired combustion equipment and thermal systems. This acquisition enabled Giffin to offer additional services, such as design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, and maintenance in the ICI and automotive and OEM manufacturing sectors. GIFFIN COMBUSTION SERVICES LTD. has extensive experience in all types of ovens, air supply houses, and boilers, and this synergy — as well as Giffin’s alliance with Smith and Long
— expands Giffin’s portfolio of services exponentially, providing multi-sector clientele with turnkey solutions.
In 2021, Giffin relocated once again — this time to Smith and Long’s mammoth industrial park near Pearson Airport — providing ample room for their inevitable continued growth and success.
