Proactive Maintenance

OFFERINGS FOR PROACTIVE MAINTENANCE:

CIRCUIT BREAKER MAINTENANCE

Large frame circuit breakers generally form an integral part of large electrical distribution systems where a distribution switchboard is part of the electrical service infrastructure. They are complex devices that require regularly scheduled professional proactive maintenance service if they are to continue to provide safe and reliable electrical protection as originally designed.

The Smith & Long Proactive Electrical Maintenance Services Team have OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) trained personnel, thus ensuring that all service and proactive maintenance services performed are done so with the highest regard for compliance to the various manufacturer’s recommended service methodology.

A brief listing of the service offerings provided by the Smith & Long Proactive Electrical Maintenance Services Team are:

    • Inspecting, cleaning, lubrication & testing
    • Protection relay replacements of defective and or obsolete legacy products
    • Asbestos arc chute replacements
    • Secondary injection testing
    • Contact resistance testing
    • Insulation resistance testing
  • Ceramic insulator replacements

In addition to being able to provide service and proactive maintenance offerings, we regularly provide complete circuit breaker refurbishments where a cost-benefit is done against a complete replacement.  In some cases, a replacement with new circuit breakers is not feasible or it’s impractical.

A full mechanical overhaul inclusive of inspection, cleaning, lubrication, defective part replacement, component enhancements, and feature upgrades complete with a full report will provide the client with a reliable “like new” product.  This process can be performed on the client’s premises or performed off-site in our shop.

Upon request, the Smith & Long Proactive Electrical Maintenance Services Team can develop a Circuit Breaker Refurbishment Program & Schedule for an entire switchboard or multiple switchboards within a facility.

This can be accomplished with minimal overall facility interruption by incorporating the use of one or two spare circuit breakers (from client inventory or as supplied by Smith & Long) by doing a complete refurbishment on the spare breakers and set them up for replacing the existing breakers on a rotational schedule which in turn will be rebuilt on or off-site.  This process can be performed sequentially on subsequent weekends or whatever cycle best suits the client’s needs to mitigate production loss.
